What it is

Connect Google Calendar when prompts require information from your schedule. OpenAI's ChatGPT Business release notes for 13 March 2026 say write actions were added to the Google and Microsoft apps and that users can set up meetings using the respective calendar apps; those write actions are administrator-controlled. The current Google app data controls page lists the calendar.events write scope alongside Google Meet read scopes, and Google Meet actions such as space lookup, conference records, recordings, transcripts and transcript entries can surface under Google Calendar where available. As of 28 August 2026, supported Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users can connect multiple Google accounts for Google Calendar.

What it can do

What it cannot do

Not confirmed means official documentation does not assign this capability to this specific connection. It is not a claim that the capability is impossible.

Availability and requirements

Varies by plan, workspace, role, surface and region; verify in the current Plugin Directory. Write actions are administrator-controlled. Since 28 August 2026, supported Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users can connect multiple Google accounts for Google Calendar.

Account requirements

  • A Google Calendar account
  • Authorization
  • Current ChatGPT eligibility
  • Workspace action controls and approved Google scopes for meeting setup

How to connect

Setup path Plugin Directory / Settings > Apps

  1. 1. Find the app

Find Google Calendar in the Plugin Directory or Settings > Apps.

  2. 2. Review actions

    Review the current listed actions.

  3. 3. Connect

Connect the correct Google account, or several where supported.

  4. 4. Enable write actions where needed

Ask the ChatGPT workspace admin to permit Google app actions and the Google Workspace admin to approve the required scopes; reconnect the app if new scopes are needed.

  5. 5. Use it

Invoke it in chat or select it in deep research where required.

Permissions, privacy, and admin controls

Managed-workspace controls apply and Google app write actions are administrator-controlled; a Google Workspace admin approves the OAuth scopes, which currently include calendar.events plus Google Meet read scopes. Enterprise/Edu apps are disabled by default.

  • Calendar access remains bounded by the account permissions granted to the app.
  • Review the action approval card before allowing ChatGPT to create an event or meeting.

Platform context

  • OpenAI’s Plugin Directory is now the main discovery surface, while apps remain the integrations that connect ChatGPT to external data and actions. App capabilities and availability can vary by app, plan, workspace, role, surface, model, and region. Business workspace admins can manage apps; apps are enabled by default for Business and disabled by default for Enterprise/Edu. Enterprise/Edu can use role-based access controls. ChatGPT permissions do not give an app new provider permissions; they govern when ChatGPT asks before using access already granted. Voice mode does not currently support apps.

Documented limitations

  • Write actions are administrator-controlled and can be unavailable even when calendar reading works.
  • Updating or deleting existing events is not documented in the sources cited here.
  • Google Meet actions surfacing under Calendar are read-only in the current documentation.
  • Voice mode does not support apps.
  • Current eligibility may differ from the original rollout.

Best use cases

  • Schedule summaries
  • Preparing for meetings
  • Finding events
  • Setting up a meeting where write actions are enabled
  • Adding calendar context to research

Example prompts

  • What meetings do I have tomorrow that relate to the launch?
  • Use my calendar to build a preparation checklist for this week.
  • Set up a 30-minute review meeting with the launch team on Thursday afternoon.
  • Find the date of my last meeting with the finance team.

Troubleshooting

  • ChatGPT does not use your calendar

Check account selection, workspace enablement, current model/surface support, and explicit app selection in deep research.

  • ChatGPT cannot create an event or set up a meeting

Google app write actions are administrator-controlled. Ask the ChatGPT workspace admin to permit calendar actions and the Google Workspace admin to approve the calendar.events scope, then reconnect the app.
