Availability and requirements

OpenAI does not publish a fixed plan matrix on the Notion plugin page. The Plugin Directory is visible across plans, but installation and invocation can depend on plan, workspace settings, role, supported surface, region and the capabilities enabled for the underlying Notion app. Confirm the current listing before rollout.

    In a managed ChatGPT workspace, have an administrator enable the app, assign access and configure allowed actions where required.

Permissions, privacy, and admin controls

Personal users can connect when eligible. Business administrators can manage the app and its actions; Enterprise/Edu apps are disabled by default and must be enabled, with role access available where supported. On the Notion side, Enterprise MCP Governance can restrict connections to approved AI apps and MCP clients, including ChatGPT.

  • Notion says MCP tools act with the connecting user's full Notion permissions and can access everything that user can access.
  • Notion MCP continues to respect existing Notion permissions; approving the app does not bypass page or workspace access controls.
  • Enterprise Notion administrators can use MCP Governance to approve specific AI apps, block unapproved clients and disconnect all users.
  • ChatGPT app permissions determine when ChatGPT asks before using existing access; they do not grant the Notion app additional provider permissions.
  • OpenAI does not use information accessed from apps to train models for Business, Enterprise and Edu customers by default. For Free, Plus, Go and Pro users, use may depend on the Improve the model for everyone setting.

    Confirm the correct Notion workspace was authorized, the connected user can open the page in Notion, and the Notion app is selected or explicitly invoked with @Notion.

  • A create or update action is missing

    Confirm the user reconnected to the current Notion app, then review ChatGPT action controls, app permissions, approval requirements and the user's Notion permissions.

  • The sync option is missing

    That is expected. OpenAI says Notion does not support individual sync, and individual sync connections configured in the past are no longer available. Use the live Notion app instead.

  • Can ChatGPT edit Notion pages and databases?

    The current Notion plugin documentation describes creating and updating pages, properties and databases, and moving or duplicating pages, when the relevant actions are available and enabled and the connecting user has the necessary Notion permissions.

  • Can the connection bypass Notion permissions?
