Does Notion connect to ChatGPT?
Yes. Notion publishes a Notion-made plugin for ChatGPT that searches and references Notion pages, and OpenAI documents workflows that create or update pages, properties and databases and move or duplicate pages when those actions are available and enabled. Notion does not support individual sync, and previously configured individual sync connections are no longer available.
Quick answer
Yes — Notion connects to ChatGPT as a native app, verified against official documentation on 4 Sept 2026. Documentation confirms search, read, create and update access, while sync and delete remain not confirmed — which is different from unavailable. Notion publishes a Notion-made plugin for ChatGPT that searches and references Notion pages, and OpenAI documents workflows that create or update pages, properties and databases and move or duplicate pages when those actions are available and enabled.

What it is
The current Notion plugin brings permitted Notion knowledge and project data into ChatGPT. OpenAI documents semantic search across pages, source-backed answers, creation of meeting notes, FAQs and status updates, updates to pages and properties, creation or updating of project databases, and moving or duplicating pages. Those write workflows depend on the actions exposed by the current app and plugin, ChatGPT workspace controls, approval settings and the connecting user's Notion permissions. There is no synced mode: OpenAI's current documentation says Notion does not support individual sync and that individual sync connections configured in the past are no longer available.

Availability and requirements
OpenAI does not publish a fixed plan matrix on the Notion plugin page. The Plugin Directory is visible across plans, but installation and invocation can depend on plan, workspace settings, role, supported surface, region and the capabilities enabled for the underlying Notion app. Confirm the current listing before rollout.
Account requirements
- An eligible ChatGPT account and supported surface
- A Notion account with access to the intended workspace content
- OAuth authorization for the correct Notion workspace
- ChatGPT workspace enablement and action approval where required
- Notion Enterprise approval where MCP Governance restricts external AI apps
How to connect
Setup path ChatGPT Plugin Directory + Notion authentication
1. Open the Plugin Directory
In ChatGPT, open the Plugin Directory and find the Notion plugin.
2. Review the included app
Review the Notion app's current search and action capabilities, terms, privacy information and connection requirements.
3. Enable it for the workspace
In a managed ChatGPT workspace, have an administrator enable the app, assign access and configure allowed actions where required.
4. Connect Notion
Select Connect, authenticate with Notion and authorize the appropriate workspace.
5. Check Notion governance
If Notion Enterprise MCP Governance is enabled, confirm ChatGPT is on the approved AI-app list.
6. Invoke Notion
Use @Notion in the prompt, or select the connected app from the ChatGPT composer, then start with a low-risk search.
7. Reconnect an older app if needed
Users of an earlier version of the app may need to reconnect to receive the current action experience.
Permissions, privacy, and admin controls
Personal users can connect when eligible. Business administrators can manage the app and its actions; Enterprise/Edu apps are disabled by default and must be enabled, with role access available where supported. On the Notion side, Enterprise MCP Governance can restrict connections to approved AI apps and MCP clients, including ChatGPT.
- Notion says MCP tools act with the connecting user's full Notion permissions and can access everything that user can access.
- Notion MCP continues to respect existing Notion permissions; approving the app does not bypass page or workspace access controls.
- Enterprise Notion administrators can use MCP Governance to approve specific AI apps, block unapproved clients and disconnect all users.
- ChatGPT app permissions determine when ChatGPT asks before using existing access; they do not grant the Notion app additional provider permissions.
- OpenAI does not use information accessed from apps to train models for Business, Enterprise and Edu customers by default. For Free, Plus, Go and Pro users, use may depend on the Improve the model for everyone setting.
Platform context
- OpenAI’s Plugin Directory is now the main discovery surface, while apps remain the integrations that connect ChatGPT to external data and actions. App capabilities and availability can vary by app, plan, workspace, role, surface, model, and region. Business workspace admins can manage apps; apps are enabled by default for Business and disabled by default for Enterprise/Edu. Enterprise/Edu can use role-based access controls. ChatGPT permissions do not give an app new provider permissions; they govern when ChatGPT asks before using access already granted. Voice mode does not currently support apps.
Documented limitations
- There is no synced Notion mode: individual sync is not supported and previously configured individual sync connections are no longer available.
- Current write actions depend on the app and plugin version, ChatGPT action controls, approval settings and the connecting user's Notion permissions.
- The official sources supplied here do not establish a delete action.
- Availability can vary by plan, workspace, role, surface and region.
- Voice mode does not support apps.
Best use cases
- Finding decisions, specifications and supporting Notion pages
- Drafting meeting notes, FAQs and status updates
- Creating a roadmap or project database from a prompt
- Updating page properties as project status changes
- Auditing documentation and producing an update backlog
- Moving or duplicating pages for a new planning cycle
Example prompts
- “@Notion Find the latest decision on pricing and summarize it with the supporting page links.”
- “@Notion Create a roadmap database with owner, status, quarter and risk properties, then populate it from these initiatives.”
- “@Notion Draft a weekly project status page from the latest permitted project notes.”
- “@Notion Audit our product documentation and list the pages that appear to need updates.”
- “@Notion Update the status property on these approved project pages after I confirm the proposed changes.”
Troubleshooting
The Notion plugin or Connect button is unavailable
Check the current plan, region, supported ChatGPT surface, workspace plugin installation policy, underlying app enablement and role access. In managed workspaces, ask an administrator to review both Plugins and Apps settings.
Notion search does not return an expected page
Confirm the correct Notion workspace was authorized, the connected user can open the page in Notion, and the Notion app is selected or explicitly invoked with @Notion.
A create or update action is missing
Confirm the user reconnected to the current Notion app, then review ChatGPT action controls, app permissions, approval requirements and the user's Notion permissions.
The sync option is missing
That is expected. OpenAI says Notion does not support individual sync, and individual sync connections configured in the past are no longer available. Use the live Notion app instead.
Can ChatGPT edit Notion pages and databases?
The current Notion plugin documentation describes creating and updating pages, properties and databases, and moving or duplicating pages, when the relevant actions are available and enabled and the connecting user has the necessary Notion permissions.
Can the connection bypass Notion permissions?
No. Notion says its MCP connection respects existing Notion permissions, and OpenAI says app controls do not grant new access in the provider.
